The GVLRS Scholarships

Since 1995 we, with the assistance of the generosity of a former member, have awarded many thousands of dollars in scholarship monies to Nevada County high school and Sierra College students.  Our scholarships are targeted towards those with clearly defined, short term goals who aim to make themselves economically self sufficient in a short amount of time. We have helped educate future firefighters, nurses, mechanics, massage therapists, hair dressers, and veterinary technicians to name but a few of the careers our students have chosen to pursue. Currently, the GVLRS offers a $2,000 annual scholarship for deserving Sierra College students, through the Osher Foundation at Sierra College.

To qualify you must:
  • Be a single parent (with at least one child under 18) and a current resident of western Nevada County.
  • Have completed half of your units toward an AA Degree or certificate.
  • Have a GPA of at least 2.0.
  • Graduate from Sierra College the following year of the scholarship award.
If you meet the above criteria, please visit the Sierra College website to apply. We review the applications and select a few for follow-up interviews. We then award our scholarship in spring for the following academic year.
